Whilst roaming the streets of Florence, Italy, I noticed several ‘no entry’ signs that had mysterious black figures added (which looked like easily removeable adhesives). After seeing more and more, I decided to research this unusual phenomenon. I found out that the person behind this act is a French artist, Clet Abraham, who had been living in Italy for the past 20 years.

Abraham, with the help of a few friends, apply the adhesives at night, even in front of security cameras. He has been given a fine from the police who said that he doesn’t have permission to add to the street signs. This is an act of vandalism against the laws of the road. However, others see his work as a ‘contribution to the urban decay of rampant in Florence’. Personally, I see his work as a bit of fun, especially for tourists who can discover new ones when exploring the streets of Florence.

Abraham makes these adhesives by firstly sketching designs out onto paper, before tracing them onto adhesives. He pre makes them so that it takes seconds to stick them on.
